The Extraordinary Ordinary

I’ve been excited about photography my whole life, but chose a “safe” career in business and gave up the arts when I went to college. 30 years later, I picked up a camera again, and started over. Digital photography has reached the point where I miss nothing about film, and I’m grateful for the capabilities the available tools offer. That said, I don’t use a lot of tricks, so most of what you see in these shots is pretty much how the subjects looked to me.

I do all kinds of photography, from landscapes to macro to portraits to theater,  travel, architecture, commercial, etc., but if I had to point at an underlying philosophy in my work, it’s probably what I call “The Extraordinary Ordinary.” That means finding ways to show that things and places we may consider ordinary are worth a second, longer look, because there’s often something special in those things if you look at them differently. The collection I’m showing here tries to embody that concept. It’s a small sample of work available through my web site, photoartbybuzz.com, and my Facebook site.

I also do my own printing and framing. Everything in my portfolio is available in limited edition archival prints (framed or unframed). I use Canon DSLR and Sony mirrorless bodies with Canon, Tamron, and Sigma lenses.
